Lumiere Events

Recently, I've been given the opportunity to work as a design director for a very cool
up & coming company called Lumiere Event Planning.

It hasn't officially launched yet, so I'm going to hold off on all of the awesome details until the website is in full swing...but there's some really fun concepts that this company will be offering!

Until then, I thought I'd at least share a fun Christmas wedding reception we
helped with this past week at a clients home...

The catering company we worked with was well organized and very efficient :)

Here's a peek at our cute catering crew...thanks girls!

That's it for now...thanks for stopping by! ;)

vintage soap dispensers

I've been searching high and low for unique farmhouse soap dispensers for my kitchen and bathrooms that were affordable, and I finally found some that I LOVED!

Are they not awesome?! I love them, and they came from TARGET!
They have several styles that range in between $10-$13!

Just wanted to share this great find with my online friends!
I want to go back and get these for my boys' bathroom too :)

holiday crafts & farm sign

Things around here have been so crazy busy that I've been MIA for a while...BUT I have managed to get a few holiday projects done. Since there are so many adorable and fun paper patterns available, I couldn't help myself! Here's a simple holiday paper banner that I hung on the mantle...

Another thing I love to do in the Fall is paint iridescent pumpkins and gourds to match the tones in my house. Since this makes them look fake, it helps to surround them with natural elements--
like pinecones from the neighbors yard ;)

This is what they looked like before (Walmart $2.50...yes!)
It's a really easy process...using craft paint, simply paint your pumpkins and let dry. To create the iridescent look, just apply a "pearl" craft paint that is slightly watered down. That's all :)

One more thing I've been wanting to do for a LONG time is make this "No Empty Chairs" sign
to hang above my dining table. We do a lot of things around our table besides just eat...we play games and cards, we visit, we do school work, and we bond. This is where we create long-lasting, special memories. So I always tell my family that when we are all sitting around the table someday in Heaven, I don't want any empty chairs. This sign resembles more than just a decoration.
It reminds each one of us of our commitment to each other and the family unit.

Nothing is more important to me than "No Empty Chairs."

Painting a two-tone table

The original idea for this table was to sand and re-stain this table top in a dark walnut. But after we got a closer look, we realized that this table was made of laminate...which means it's not stainable.

Option #2 was to paint a two-tone finish, to look like a dark walnut.
First, we painted the base in an antique white, let it dry overnight and then taped off
around the lower area, using painters tape so as to not peel the fresh paint.

Next, we masked off the table skirt and legs...and sprayed the top in Espresso.

Last of all, we finished the top with a black oil glaze, which left the appearance of a rich wood grain.
The end result was just what we had hoped for. Paint never ceases to amaze me!

For more information on our oil glazing techniques, see here.
Also, here's the formula to our Espresso finish :)

Hope you're having a happy day!

Transformation pics!

We've been super-duper busy working on so many projects, I haven't had the time to post any pictures... however I managed to get a few today! Some of our clients are in the process
of furnishing their vacation home, and brought us some pieces to work on...

This buffet is super solid and heavy duty! Already pretty cute, but kind of dated.

We decided to replace the glass with a piece of bead board, and finished it in Winters Grey...

Another quick fix was to spray the knobs in Rustoleum's Hammered Metallic spray.

Here's another piece...this old coffee turned out pretty neat too.

This one was finished it in Gauntlet Grey (Sherwin Williams), and we sprayed the gold handles
and iron inserts with Rustoleum's Hammered Metallic spray (again)... I love that stuff!

The neat thing about this piece is that our client is having a thick seat cushion made for it,
and will be used as a bench at the end of their bed! Such a cute idea!

I just love it when old things are transformed into new again!
