stunning vintage sideboard

This amazing sideboard belonged to a client who happened to

pick it up at a yard sale for a VERY, VERY good deal.

Even in this condition I could tell what amazing potential it had.

 

 

 

The tones throughout my clients home was soft and soothing greys. . .so

naturally, she decided to go with a grey that would compliment her surroundings.

 

Since her decor is more on the modern side, we went with a minimal amount

of distressing. . .just enough to accentuate the amazing designs and turned legs.

 

Oh my. . .those are beau-ti-ful legs!!

 



 

The hardware was switched out for a chunkier, more updated style which also

added a lot of personality and charm :)

 

As far as a finish coat, we went with a semi-gloss to give the luster a warm glow. . .

 

Simple, yet stunning.

sweet little vintage hutch

 Once in a while I come across something that

pulls at my heartstrings. . .this was one of those pieces.

 

The curves, the lines, the turned legs, and overall design. . .very charming :)

 

 

 

One of my cute clients called me wondering if I'd like this. . .

ummm. . .heck yeah! 

It only took a second for me to know exactly where she was gonna go. . .

Since I knew that this was going to be a keeper for a very long time, I decided

to give her a timeless but classic finish with antique white, and a little

minor distressing to show a hint of wear and tear.

 



She fits nice and snug between the kids' rooms at the top of the landing. . .

 



 

The inside was kept in its original form for a nice contrast

against the white. . .not to mention I love the warmth the wood provides.

 

Pieces like this remind me of a more simple, slow paced life. . .

and who doesn't need to be reminded of that every once in a while? :)

 



green and gorgeous

Just wanted to share with you a darling little vintage cabinet that was

originally used to hold vinal records once upon a time. . .

When it came to us, it was in pretty good shape for how
old it was. . .and just needed a little tender loving care ;)

The green was chosen to match the bedding in our clients

little boys' room, which we toned down a bit by distressing

and adding a dark walnut oil glaze. . .

By refinishing the top and knobs in a dark walnut stain,

it provided the perfect contrast.

Look at that beautiful wood grain! I always love the suprise I get when

staining unfamiliar wood and wiping it away to reveal its true design. . .

 

Lucky little guy who gets this fun heirloom piece in his bedroom :)

Adorable roll top desk/dresser combo

I just love unique pieces. . .ones that you don't see everyday.

This sweet little thing caught my eye the second I saw her. . .

Well, this is actually what she looked like, but the cute little bun feet, cubby holes,

and overall character stole my heart. . .I knew she was something special :)

We're getting things ready for the Gardner Village Farmers Market,

which opens in just a few short weeks. . .and I think I'll

bring this with me.

She'll make a great addition to our space.

I also loved this feature with the pull out, which we decided to keep

in its original form for a nice contrast. . .

I know she'll make some little gal happy :)

Adorable vintage desk & chair for sale!

This sweet vintage desk and chair set has been my personal office for the last few years,

and it breaks my heart to part with it. . .but I've inherited a stunning

farmhouse writing desk that I am soooo excited to put in my new studio :)

Finished in a Robin's Egg blue, with a black undercoating.

This is a one of a kind original vintage desk, solid and sturdy.

 

The chair is finished in a light cream with a soft blue undercoating, and finished in a

walnut glaze overlay. The braided rug seat is NOT included. . .sorry :(

Vintage sewing machine. . .

I have a sewing machine. . .but I don't sew.

This was a $7 thrift store find, and it just kept calling my name. . . true story!

I mean, can you not see the beauty in this?

How many weathered hands have stitched warm quilts, baby clothes,

aprons, linen tablecloths, and petticoats?

I can almost hear the low humming of it now, in the days of yester-year. . .

And think about the lives that have been blessed by the hands that worked this machine.

Of course, it didn't look like this at first. . .but I like to envision one's

potential, searching for it's inner beauty...

 

 

And this is what I saw. . .

Most things I finish to sell. . .but some things I just can't bear to part with.

This lovely little friend has found it's place in my heart. . .

and in my home :)

Mod podge and old sheet music

A few months ago, I scored some awesome farmhouse finds

and shared some of them with ya'll (see here)

Well, the sweet old farmer who I dearly love was very fond of music,

and from what I understand, was an exceptional pianist as well.
 As I rummaged through his piles of things, I came across some old sheet
music from the 1940's and 50's. . .Yesssss

Honestly. . .how many cool things can you do with old sheet music?

So here was my dilemma. . .I just recently put this farmhouse cupboard

(from the same estate sale) in my family room, and wanted to just keep

it simple and light, but it's been buggin' me and I finally figured

it out today. . .



It needed a little contrast...

So I pulled out my stack of old papers and came across one

that really caught my eye. I also grabbed a vintage frame that I was

originally going to paint, but the dark unkempt wood provided

the perfect contrast. . .

For this particular project I didn't want to have the glare from glass,

so I cut a cardboard piece the same size as the frame, and

mounted the page with a generous amount of mod podge

on the cardboard. . .

After letting it dry, I then applied another generous amount to

the top to offer protection and durability. . .

To get a canvas look, I bunched up a grocery bag and dabbed

the wet mod podge. . .this leaves a great texture :)

 By hanging it low, and slightly overlapped by surrounding

objects, it united all the pieces together. . .

 I love linking the

past with the present!
