I just have to share with you one of my all time favorite pieces.
I lovingly refer to her as Adrianna, after my dutch great-grandmother whom I've never met, but feel like I've always known. That's how I feel about this sideboard...
She was given to me by my good friend Linda, and I knew immediately that this would be a keeper. You know when you see something and make a connection,
almost like old friends reuniting?
That's how it was for me...a little strange, I know.
Inside the upper drawer was a plate revealing that it was handcrafted by Doernbecher Furniture.
By researching it on the internet, I learned that it was made during WWII,
and was used in hospitals to house medical supplies.
aahhhh...I love pieces that are rich with history!
She was pretty shabby when I got her. I decided to use an Heirloom White, with heavy distressing to compliment her heritage. She then got a lovely walnut glaze and clear coat for protection.
I think she's happy :)

Oma and Opa...
I can't wait until I can reunite with them someday too!

Hi!
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping by from Miss Mustard Seed's blog.
What a lovely post this is!
I'm glad to see that someone else has "named" their antique furniture piece! This is a beautiful sideboard and you have done an amazing job renewing it's life!
I'm sure it will bring you smiles for many, many years.
Here is the link about my vintage secretary. She's so old, but has made me much more organized. I keep all my greeting cards and anything else I might need to mail letters in the first two drawers. I also keep my best gift wrap along with scissors and tape in the very bottom drawer.
I wish you a lovely weekend,
~Maria
ps. Your grandparents look like very sweet people.
Thanks for stopping by Maria! Don't you just LOVE Miss Mustard? I saw your secretary desk...so beautiful! Thank you for your comments, and I hope you don't mind that I helped myself to your button :)
