Hardware refinish tutorial made simple!

Hardware can be expensive, not to mention that sometimes
drilling new holes is required as well!
This hardware was in great shape, but just needed  a little update.

Arrange all your hardware in a warm, well ventilated area. . .
and spread far enough apart to get all angles.

In this tutorial, we're going to spray the hardware in a brushed nickel. . .
but there are many other options to choose out of.
My favorite finishes to use are Valispar from Lowes, and
Rustoleum from The Home Depot.

The first thing you're going to do is prime the hardware. . .

Tip: When painting, use a white primer under lighter colors,
and gray or other dark primer for darker colors.

Let the primer dry for at least 30 minutes,
then put on a light coat of Metallic spray.

(sorry about the fuzzy picture)

Let dry for at least an hour, and then apply second coat.

Allow 24 hours dry time. . .and it's done!

Remember:
The paint will still be curing for the next
7-10 days, and can chip easily until fully cured!

And there you have it. . .sometimes the simple things
in life make all the difference!

  1. What a difference. They look amazing. I've painted some metal things (lamps)before but didnt think to prime first. I'm glad I saw this before I went out and bought new hardware for a chest of drawers I'm redoing. I'm gonna save sooo much money now AND they'll be more durable. Thanks! You have gorgeous peices of furniture. I love your blog and am a new follower. I don't have one of my own but love before and afters so have been taking pictures of things I do around the house and yard for my own record. Take care, Leslie
